A gutter doesn’t have to fall off the house to cause trouble. A drip at one corner or a run that sags an inch can send water down your siding and into the soil next to your foundation every time it rains. Gutter repair stops that before it turns into rotted fascia, a wet basement or a washed-out flower bed.

Home Crew Construction repairs gutters on homes across Long Island, in Nassau County and Suffolk County, as part of our full range of gutter services. We find what’s actually wrong, fix it properly and tell you if the system is past saving.

Quick answer: What does gutter repair involve?

Gutter repair means fixing the parts of a gutter system that leak, sag or clog: resealing seams and corners, re-hanging loose runs, replacing damaged sections and clearing downspouts. Home Crew Construction repairs gutters across Nassau and Suffolk County on Long Island and tells you plainly when replacement makes more sense.

How it works

How gutters move the water.

A gutter system catches the water off your roof and carries it away from the walls and foundation.

Signs you need gutter repair

  • Drips or leaks at seams, corners, end caps or where the downspout connects
  • Overflow over the front edge in a normal rain, even when the gutter is clean
  • Sagging runs, or gutters pulling away from the fascia
  • Standing water that sits in the gutter for days after a storm
  • Peeling paint, stains or rot on the fascia board or the siding below
  • Erosion or puddles at the base of the wall, or a damp basement

Some of these are obvious from the ground. Others, like a gutter pitched the wrong way, only show up in a heavy rain. If you’re not sure, take a photo or a short video during the next storm and mention it when you request a quote.

Common gutter problems we fix

Most gutter trouble comes down to a handful of causes, and each has a proper fix:

  • Leaking seams and corners. Old sealant dries out and cracks. We clean the joint and reseal it, or replace the corner piece if it’s damaged.
  • Sagging and loose gutters. Hangers loosen, spikes back out and fascia boards soften. We re-hang the run with new hangers fastened into solid wood and correct the pitch so water flows to the downspout.
  • Damaged sections. Ladders, falling branches and ice can dent or split a gutter. We replace the damaged length and match it to what’s there.
  • Clogged or disconnected downspouts. We clear blockages, re-secure elbows and straps, and add extensions or splash blocks so water lands away from the foundation.
  • Wrong pitch. A gutter that’s level, or tilted away from the downspout, holds water. We reset it so it drains.

  3. We fix it and check itAfter the repair we run water through the gutter to make sure it drains to the downspouts without leaking.
  4. We clean upOld sealant, debris and hardware leave with us.

Should you repair or replace your gutters?

A repair makes sense when the problem is in one place: one leaking corner, one sagging run, one crushed downspout. Replacement is usually the better call when:

  • Leaks show up at many seams at once
  • The gutter is rusted through, cracked in several places or badly bent
  • The fascia behind it has rotted along a long stretch
  • The gutters are too small for the roof and overflow even when clean

If replacement makes more sense, we’ll show you why and price gutter replacement next to the repair, so you can decide with both numbers in front of you.

Why fix gutter problems now?

Gutter damage gets worse with every storm. Water that gets behind the gutter soaks the fascia and can reach the roof deck. In winter, standing water freezes, adds weight and pulls the gutter further off the house. On Long Island, where fall leaves and nor’easters arrive in the same few months, a small leak in September can be a sagging gutter by January.

Sometimes what looks like a gutter problem starts on the roof. Water running behind the gutter can mean a missing drip edge or damaged flashing. If we see that, we’ll point it out; we handle roof flashing repair too.

Clogs cause a lot of the damage we repair. Regular gutter cleaning or a set of gutter guards helps keep it from coming back.

Gutter repair FAQ

Common questions.

Still not sure?

Call 631-965-0881 any time. We'll tell you straight whether it's a repair or a replacement.

01

Can a leaking gutter seam be fixed without replacing the gutter?

Usually, yes. Most seam and corner leaks come from old sealant that has dried out and cracked. We clean the joint and reseal it, or replace the corner piece if it’s damaged. Replacement only makes sense when leaks are widespread or the metal itself is failing.

02

Why are my gutters overflowing when they’re clean?

The usual causes are a gutter pitched the wrong way, a blocked downspout, or a gutter that’s too small for the roof area above it. We check the pitch and the downspouts first, since those are the simplest fixes.

03

Why is my gutter pulling away from the house?

Loose hangers, spikes that have backed out, the weight of wet debris or ice, or soft, rotted fascia behind the gutter. We re-secure the gutter into solid wood and tell you if the fascia needs repair.

04

How soon can you look at my gutters?
